Seth Olinsky
“For many, the highlight of the festival came on Saturday afternoon at Band Dialogue III, where Seth Olinsky of Akron/Family, who was performing at Treefort under the moniker of his side-project Cy Dune, took on the role of composer and conductor in leading a dozen full bands in a massive orchestra that lined both sides of a closed off city block. Olinsky used cue cards to give the bands chord progressions, and his back and forth commands triggered bands, instruments, and alternating sides of the street, creating a sweeping whirlwind of sound that washed over everything in the surrounding area.”

Lightning is excited to release Bronzed, the new Seth Olinsky album Bronzed, the soundtrack for the film Bronzed, written and directed by Mike Egan
and stars Linas Phillips and Johnny Pemberton. The soundtrack weaves between a
beautiful, ambient, and borderline spiritual sound sound that would fit with fans of Arvo
Part or Stars of the Lid, and an off the rails modern horror score and noise music that would fit in with the sounds of of Colin Stetson, Mica Levi, Oneotrix Point Never and Jonny Greenwood. The score was recorded at Lightning Studios in California and features virtuoso cellist Paul Wiancko of the Kronos Quartet on strings, and mastered at Abbey Road by Christian Wright (Radiohead, Bjork, Alexandre Desplat).

Here is Seth’s take on his new release:
Bronzed was an incredible project to work on and we developed a ton of incredible music out of the studio working with the director and musicians, so I’m super excited to see the release of the soundtrack and all the bonus music. Following E, this is another bonus, unreleased song, written as part of the backstory explore of the main character Martin played by Linas Phillips. Here again the surface is one of hushed spiritual beauty, with a textural dissonance in the faint background that adds a haywire quality, not fully upsetting the surface beauty yet, but acknowledging the delusion in the character. The song builds but then ends abruptly before we find out just exactly about how these two contrasting perspectives play out.
