Lightning 007 Coffee Ethiopia
The Chorongi wet mill is a member of the Mutheka farmers cooperative society, and is located in Nyeri, close to Gachuiro and Kieni mills. Chorongi has about 1,000 small growers delivering cherry during harvest, each with around 250 SL28 and SL34 trees. After being depulped the coffee is fermented under shade for 16-24 hours before being washed, sorted and soaked for 16-18 hours. The coffees are then dried on raised beds for around 3 weeks being covered with plastic at night and during the midday sun. Chorongi is a great example of exceptional processing from bulking small producers together from one region. This is similar to our coffees from Ethiopia, and contrasts our coffees from Nyawira and Spikes (both being independent estates).
As our sourcing program in Kenya grows it’s important for us to understand the benefits and impacts of both systems, and ultimately how to ensure quality of coffee and quality of relationship are matched. We’re proud to showcase this coffee for another year and can’t wait to share it with you!
